Hi @send-subscriber-name@,This is Gabriel Kahn in Fairfax. We’re back after a Thanksgiving break to talk about getting around Beverly Grove on foot or on wheels. Car traffic is a constant in Los Angeles. But the last few years have brought something new: electric scooters. The city has permitted more than 37,000 of these so-called “dockless mobility vehicles.” As convenient as they may be, they also create a major nuisssance when they are strewn across sidewalks or parking lots. Surely, you have had to step over an abondoned scooter outside your door. We now have the data about just how annoying this is.
In April, the city began releasing the number of MyLA311 complaints it receives about “dockless mobility enforcement.” Already, it is the seventh most common complaint the city receives (illegal dumping takes the top spot). According to the city’s agreement with the companies that provide these e-scooters and bikes, once used, the vehicles are supposed to be parked upright, not blocking the path of any pedestrians. That’s not happening. Also, police officers are supposed to ticket anyone riding an e-scooter on the sidewalk. Holler if that’s ever occurred. Dodging e-scooters in Beverly Grove
Dockless scooters dropped in the middle of the sidewalk are not an equal opporutnity nuissance in the city. A few neighborhoods represent the epicenter of the issue. In 40, there have been 4,497 complaints since April. In Venice, it’s 2,406. But on the outer edges of the cities, where e-scooter fear to tread, the issue barely registers. Chatsworth and Woodland Hills, for example, each had a single complaint. Since April 1 (when the new data became public), people in Beverly Grove have contacted the MyLA311 service about dockless vehicles 40 times. Where does Beverly Grove rank? Neighborhoods with the same number of complaints get the same rank. So the lowest rank is 50. The best/worst day to commute
Do you work from home or drive, at least a few days a week, or drive to work? We have some tips for you. We crunched all the data about congestion in Greater Los Angeles produced by the Transportation Institute at Texam A&M in order to make a list of congestion levels during rush hour. If you have the option of working from home on some days, choose Thursday. The Thursday evening commute is the worst of the week.
Monday is you best day for the evening weekday. But for the morning commutes, it’s a different story. Friday mornings are actually better than any other weekday. And Tuesday morning is the slowest.
